A Walk Two Remember

Recently I had a chance to go up close and personal with Two of Manila’s finest architecture, The Manila Central Post Office and The Metropolitan Theater. Both buildings are designed by Filipino Architect, Juan M. Arellano and are located a stone-throw away from the Liwasang Bonifacio, formerly known as Lawton Plaza, another famous City Of Manila Landmark.

The Manila Central Post Office

The Neoclassical Architecture building located at the banks of Pasig River in the Intramuros District of Manila was built in 1926. Damages done to the building during the World War II was rebuilt in 1946 preserving most of its original design.

The Metropolitan Theater

Inaugurated in 1931, the MET and its Art Deco inspired design was truly a glamorous and modern building. With sculptures of the facade from Italian Francesco Riccardo Monti and plant carvings from Isabelo Tampingco decorated the lobby and interiors of the building.

It was truly a great feeling to stop and be in awe as I look at every detail the buildings has to offer. I got a little extra motivation in visiting these fine works of architecture, as The Manila Central Post Office was bought by an international company and will convert it to a luxury hotel and The Metropolitan Theater still falling into decay, we just might woke up and not see them there anymore. They are part of our rich history, let us try and get to know them better.
